Mr. Rust presents: A Dirty Science

Cover Art

Thank you to everyone who downloaded my recent free track Who you are. It is nice to get back to my favorite thing - giving you new music to check out. As I mentioned, that track was just a teaser to get you back in the groove for an entirely new Mr. Rust album.

However, this time I'm doing things different from what you have come to expect from my releases. This is not an instrumental album nor a group release. This isn't even specifically just a hip hop album.

A Dirty Science is my antithesis. A dark look into my mind, body and soul that emerged from experiments in lyrics and composition that focused on theme and texture rather than the standard fare of soul samples and groove heavy drums.

For starters, this project branches out using lyrics that are part rap, part spoken word and part monologue. Most were developed using freestyles and then branching out from there. The beats involve elements of jazz and electronic music with a nod to contemporary hip hop. They are vast and rich, dark and lurching.  For fans of my instrumental albums, several instrumental tracks will be present.

The things that you will be familiar with will be my bonus material... extensive liner notes, album artwork and behind the scenes video included with the release.

A Dirty Science will be available online Sunday May 19th, 2013.

Happy New Year - Winter 2013 Update

It has been a landmark year for Mr. Rust.

Progressively over five projects in 2012, he moved comfortably from a small internet following to features in media such as thefindmag.com and on local Vancouver radio.

Online he garnered thousands of plays and hundreds of downloads reaching a global market of musical taste-makers. Most of all it was the fans that provided the fuel for this success.

For 2013, Mr. Rust will be taking the biggest leap thus far. Temporary located in the far north until he returns to Vancouver in the spring; he will spend the first few months hashing out new projects for the year in isolation.

Until then, make sure you check out any of the releases he put out in the last year available @ http://oldgrowthpoets.bandcamp.com/.

This Might Feel Like Home EP

Mr. Rust and G-Styles are proud to announce the release of their sophomore release This Might Feel Like Home.

Entirely conceptualized and recorded over one week in Vancouver BC, the duo reflects on a life on the road and living in new locales. This release halts a two year hiatus of the pair recording and shows both members of the team in top creative form.

Moving from the upbeat movement of the title track to the laid back groove of On the Porch; This Feels Like Home will take you on a sonic journey rarely touching on anything you'd expect from a hip hop record.

Available for free download now!
